Defintion

According to the Normative Model of Professional Physical Therapist Education Version 2004 (p. 161), education is “knowledge and development resulting from a process of learning and change. Education is an element of every plan of care and a component of practice with each patient/client that we see. Teaching and learning is what we do on a daily basis.  Therapeutic input without an educational component is inadequate and not consistent with quality care. Teaching and learning in physical therapy goes beyond patient care as well. Learning must be part of who we are as physical therapists as we continually strive to maintain current knowledge. Being a professional requires lifelong learning. It is only through learning and teaching others that we achieve continuous improvement in our profession.
