A major difference between PT school and other schools I’ve attended is the focus on giving back to the community.  Starting in the first semester I had opportunities in a variety of areas: the Pro-Bono clinic, Little League Baseball for kids with developmental difficulties, community health days, health screenings, food pantries, advocacy groups, and more.

Through these experiences I’ve learned that in addition to providing service to others, gaining the joys of helping others, and creating relationships with the broader community;  you also positively enhance your peer group.  Becoming involved in these activities grounded friendships and developed relationships with those I interact with on a day-to-day basis.  Carrying this forward in my professional life will be an important part of creating relationships with my community members, my professional circle, and my coworkers.

The above pictures are from an event when we cooked a large meal for a group of unhoused people.
