One of the most beneficial exercises that contributed to my professional development has been learning to read and apply academic articles to clinical situations. Throughout my fourth semester I struggled with these assignments. I never liked the feeling of “just getting by”, so I ordered a book online and studied all the things I didn’t understand. Eventually, it made sense. The assignment posted here is when it all clicked.
I was able to once again use these skills and my book in my first clinical rotation. My clinical instructor was a wealth of knowledge in regards to practice supported by evidence. We discussed articles on a daily basis. We made a google folder in order to share important articles. And we used evidence to guide our clinical practice with patients. For me, evidence based practice had a prominent role in my clinical experience, but it began to have salience during that fourth semester.
