MHA@GW Module 2: Medical Informatics & Decision Management
My Development:
Prior to this class, I thought that healthcare informatics was a field that I could never understand, or be involved, because it was for "programmers". How wrong I was!
During this class, I learned that although the creation of computer programs and integrated systems is difficult to comprehend, the implementation of these systems use general project management concepts which are applicable to my current job and future career.
I was particularly interested in learning about recent policy changes and informatics systems that were built to facilitate regulatory compliance (e.g. electronic medical records and information exchanges).
Overall, I gained a better understanding of the obstacles to successful implementation of informatics systems.
Key Competencies:
- Healthcare issues and trends
- Planning and managing projects
- Planning and implementing change
- Information and technology management
- Solving business problems and making decisions
